Use of a solid reagent in the triphenyl tetrazolium chloride test for bacteriuria.

چکیده
The use of a solid reagent in the triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (T.T.C.) test for significant bacteriuria is described. The reagent gave a positive result with 108 (86%) of 126 specimens of urine containing over 100,000 organisms per ml. In comparison with the standard T.T.C. test the modified test gave comparable results. Some possible reasons for the varying results obtained by different users of the T.T.C. test are discussed.

Method for the Detection of Significant Bacteriuria in Large Groups of Patients.
A measured area of blotting paper was used as a vehicle for transferring a constant aliquot of urine on to the surface of a culture medium. The number of bacterial colonies growing in the inoculum area of the medium corresponded to the number of organisms in the urine. One thousand, two hundred and seventy-five urines from women attending an ante-natal clinic were tested by this method, and the...

UNLABELLED The current study was aimed to evaluate the performance of direct 2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride assay and direct microscopic observation drug susceptibility assay with indirect Löwenstein-Jensen proportion method directly on Ziehl-Neelsen smear positive sputum specimens. METHODS Direct acid fast bacilli smear positive sputum specimens (n=264) were subjected to isoniazid and ...
متن کاملRefinement of the triphenyl tetrazolium chloride method of determining cold injury.
The method of evaluating cold injury in woody plants by the use of triphenyl tetrazolium chloride has been refined to eliminate bias associated with visual differentiation between varying degrees of tetrazolium reduction and to predict tissue survival at a later date. An advantage of the method described here is that a small amount of tissue (50-100 mg) is required; this, therefore, allows for ...

متن کاملOptimum Conditions for Measuring Dehydrogenase Activity of Aspergillus niger using TTC
The suitability of the triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) for dehydrogenase activity measurement of the vegetative cells of the fungal species Aspergillus niger was investigated. The triphenyl formazan (TF) yield increased with the increases in TTC concentration, pH, temperature and incubation time within the studied ranges. The effects of individual parameters, as well as the combined effect...
